The light from this picture is coming from the right. It illuminates half of Julia's face. The shadow on half the face creates a serious feeling to it. Julia is facing to the left but her eyes are looking right at the camera. I took this photo from straight on. I stood about three feet away that was I could only have the tops of her shoulders and face in the picture.
Compare and Contrast
For these pictures I kept the lighting positions the same, but had Julia change expressions and positions. In the first photo there is a serious feel to it created by shadow on half of her face and the almost blank expression on her face. The second photo is quite different. There is a light happy feeling about it. Julia is now facing the camera and smiling.
